Dormans 3 Gen Sports 2 (Senior Invitational Cup)

In what was arguably their best performance of the season, a resilient injury struck Generation side, minus 4 key players in Chris Lewis, Paul Axon, Jason McAree and new goalkeeper Gavin, gave premier division side Dormans a real battle in a game on another day they could have easily won by 2 or 3 goals.

The game started well with Generation showing their class, knocking the ball around nicely with the midfield 3 of Dan Hughes, Johnny Hindley and the returning Anthony Woodward finding gaps, playing in triangles with one another. However it was Dormans that struck 1st totally against the run of play on 6 minutes when a long ball was floated in headed across goal only for the Dormans forward to tap in from close range. Generation, to their credit did not let this get to them though, and continued by playing great football and composure on the ball and was rewarded mid way through the half when a good spell of keep ball down the left was fired home from 30 yards from Johnny Hindley, giving Shane Mayhead no chance in the Dorman's goal. Generation continued pushing for a half time lead but were unable to capitalise on their dominance. Dormans on the other hand didn't look like getting near the Gen goal with a good solid back line of Brett Hindley, Chaz Albrecht, new signing Ollie Gray and Kevin Austin allowing them no room.

Half Time: 1 - 1.

The second half started pretty much the same as the 1st ended with Gen sports dictating the pace of the game and controlling much of the ball with Phil Fennel getting more and more involved and Jimmy McClean hassling the dormans defence. 10 Minutes into the 2nd half saw a good move from Generation again down the left with Dan Hughes pulling the ball back for Phil Fennel to dummy and for Shane Brown to add to his goal tally for the season.
Then midway through the 2nd half the turning point of the match happened when stand in keeper Damian Rowlands catching the ball with ease only to be clattered seconds later in what should have seen the dismissal of the Dorman's forward, instead no action was taken from the referee, who had a very poor game.
Realising that Damian was in some discomfort Dormans were chucking everything in his path and he was unfortunately beaten by a low shot 20 minutes from time. 5 minutes later Generation had a glorious opportunity to retake the lead when a good ball in again from Dan Hughes on the left found Phil Fennel 6 yards out but his diving header was headed too well and ended up fractionally over the bar.

Dorman's then took the lead in the 82nd this time Rowlands made a good save from a free kick only for a rare lack of concentration in the Gen defence allowing the onrushing forward to follow up.

Full Time: 3 - 2

All in all a good performance from Generation, having had 75% of the possession and no result to show for it.One of the Dorman supporters praised Gens style of play telling us we were
' The best footballing team they have played this season (including all the Premier teams)'
A must win game next week at Minster vs Cramptons for the 4th time this season.if we are to progress in the cup.

Cramptons FC (Sunday) 3 Gen Sports 1

Generation sports, still injury hit by missing 2 key players in Chris Lewis (Knee Ligaments) and Anthony Woodward (Ankle) out of today's clash with Cramptons, actually started the game well and on 2 minutes went close to opening the scoring from a long shot from Phil Fennel, just going wide of the post.
This was always going to be a bit of a battle in the midfield, with Paul Axon playing a central role alongside Jason McAree, who was short of his past excellent man of the match displays and Johnny Hindley, but missing the bite of Anthony Woodward who would have stopped Cramptons from having a lot of the possession. Although Crampton's had plenty of possession Gen were content to let them have the ball, with the back three of Albrecht, Rowlands and Austin coping without any real problems, dealing with anything chucked at them.
Gen eventually found the back of the Cramptons net on the 25 minute mark from a delightfully weighted through ball from Phil Fennel for the pacy Jimmy McClean to slot the ball under the advancing Crampton's keeper.
Crampton's upped the gears and went close to an equaliser only to be correctly denied for offside by the young linesman Alexander Arnold.

Half time 0 - 1

Crampton's now chasing the game came out for the second half full of fire and were definately worthy of their equaliser on the 50 minute mark, when a free kick conceeded by Brett Brumming for unintentional handball (Ball to arm), which was well cleared by the Gen Defence only for a shot from the edge of the box to be turned in by D Cox.
This goal seemed to give Crampton's a new lease of life and 5 minutes later Gavin in the Gen goal saved from close range, coming off his line, punching the ball clear, allowing a Crampton's player to lob the Gen keeper only to be denied by the back tracking Chaz Albrecht to head clear from under his crossbar.
Then on 60 minutes Crampton's earned a corner, which was turned in again by Cox from a free header for his second, despite disputes from Generation for a Crampton's forward impeding the Gen keeper, the goal stood for Crampton's to lead 2 - 1.

Generation now pushing more forward, changing formation to 4 up front seeking an equaliser, only to be punished by an 89th minute chip come lob from Setterfield to wrap up a deserved win for Crampton's, who seemed to want it more than Gen.

All in all a good clean game from 2 very well matched sides.

Full Time 3 - 1

Gen Sports 0 Westgate FC 2

With Generation and Westgate with mass injuries this was never going to be the thriller that the first meeting between these two sides had. Gen went into this game with nothing to loose, which showed as the clocks went forward and Gen only having a bare 11 for a delayed start to the game. Both teams took time to settle, with a few chances going to both teams, the best of which fell to Westgate, only to be denied by Gavin in the Generations goal, tipping over his own crossbar from a strike by Westgate's Lee Stone. Then on the half hour mark a shot from Westgate, which was initially well saved again, only for the advancing Lee Stone to turn in the rebound for Westgate to take a 0 -1 lead. This goal seemed to spur Generation on and on 35 minutes were awarded 2 freekicks in succession, both taken by Gen's captain Damian Rowlands, only to be denied twice by Colley in the Westgate goal. Half time 0 - 1 The Second half started pretty much the same as the first, with Generation Sports looking for an equaliser and coming close a couple of times, with Jim McClean and Shane Brown up front but unable to capitalise.
Westgate continued to play good football and with fresh legs from their substitutes began to command the midfield. With 10 minutes to go Bartlett wrapped up the win for Westgate, scorring from 12 yards out.

Gen Sports 1 Barnaby FC 3

A very lack luster performance against Barnaby at Minster saw Gens challenge for a promotion spot evaporate in the sun. Taking only 10seconds for Gen to lose the ball from their kick off gifted Barnaby with a one on one to beat new keeper Gavin Wright.
Picking themselves up Gen came back at Barnaby with some good moves, but a lack of shooting chances became a theme of Gens game.
The game evened out with Barnaby's long ball which in fairness saw them getting shots off, against Gens slow and often laboured build up which fellapart as passes went astray or holding onto the ball far too long.
Gens equalizer came just after 20 when Damien quietly asked the ref if he could take a 35 yard free kick quickly, catching Barnaby off guard for a low, well driven shot.
The highlight of the game came on 35 when aloose ball fell to an unmarked Barnaby player who`s perfect volley from 40 yards gave Gav no chance in the Gen goal for
1-2.
Gen pressing the game, looking for an equaliser and winner, knowing only a win could keep their promotion chances on track looked vulnerable at the back only for some heroic keeping from Gens keeper kept Gen in the game.
It now seemed that Generation ran out of ideas and interest. A couple of moments of hope came from Jimmy McClean who turned his marker inside the box but scuffed his shot, which the keeper fumbled but stopped. Again, McClean ran at the Barnaby defence from the right and fired in a well struck shot beating the keeper for only to be denied by the post.

Half time 1 - 2

The second half reflected the first as Gen failed to play their forwards in giving Barnaby's plenty of time to organise their defence.
Hillsy came on for Dan Hughes who had performed well and later Shane who had mastered a half chance saw his shot go just wide of an empty net, came off for Phil Fennell. Although Phil gave a fighting edge it was not enough. Several corners gave little chance as Barns got to every ball first.
Finally the game was put to bed as Barns took advantage of a mix up in the centre of the park to come away with a 1-3 win and third spot in the league.
Next week, a hollow game v Westgate.

Final Score 1 - 3

The Bell Inn FC 3 Gen Sports 6

After a bismal start, and Gen playing into the sun it was The Bell Inn who broke the deadlock on about 10mins from a poorly taken corner, which travelled through about six players for Aaron Miles to grab an easy tap in. Then to make matters worse The Bell took a two goal lead, this time from a 'pea roller' shot which rolled through the hands of Tom Singleton in the Gen goal, onto the post and into the net .
This woke the Gen players up, who by now needed to be counted and like previous weeks, started to dominate with their slick passing and movement, resulting in Chris Lewis Pulling one back to shorten the defecit to 1 goal.
Jason McAree then went on a mazey run, hitting an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box to level the scores.
Now on the back foot and Generation pressing for the lead, and on 30 minutes they took the lead through Jason McAree again with another wonder strike and his second of the game.
Straight from the kick off Gen took possession, working the ball down the right flank for Jamie McClean to steer home from close range and giving Gen sports a 2-4 lead.
Then just before half time Shane Brown added to his tally to take the half time score to...

Half time 2 - 5

The secong half saw the substitution of Chaz Albrecht to give Brett Brumming a run out in a straight swap at right back. Generation Sport, now playing with their normal confidence and arrogance started taking The Bell Inn apart and it was Shane Brown again, who appearred to have beaten The Bell's back four to slot the ball into the net only to be wrongly disallowed for off side. Phil Fennell was then introduced for the tired Shane Brown and increased Gen's lead on 70mins
with the goal of the game.
Fennel lobbing the Bell keeper from 35 yards out for Gen to take a 2 - 6 lead.
The Bell then got a consolation goal against the run of play.

Final Score 3 v 6

Saunders FC 1 Gen Sports 2

Gen Sports started the game well and settled the quickest with about 80% of the posession, however it was Saunders who came closest to opening the scoring only to be denied by an excellent diving header from Paul Axon, clearing his own bar. Saunders closed Gen Sports down not allowing much room for the dominating Gen midfield led by Jason McAree.
On approx 35 mins, Paul Axon suffering a nasty gash above the left eye from a clash of heads, but the midfielder so determined to finish the game came off for treatment, only to return to the action 2 minutes later.

Half time 0 - 0

Generation Sport, now playing against the wind, again started the second half much as the first and it was on 60 minutes that Gen took the lead from a Jason McAree shot/cross, which was deflected with Dan Hughes following up at the back post to be denied by a great save from the Saunders keeper only for the incoming Shane Brown to score his 16th of the season.
Gen Sports again took control of the game with some slick passing but some good defending from the Saunders back line kept Gen at bay until the 80th minute, when McAree slipped the ball through to Hughes, who rounded his marker, pulling the ball back to Jamie McClean whos shot was deflected for Shane Brown to tap home in Lineker fashion from 2 yards.
Saunders, despite Gen taking a 2 goal lead never gave up and it was only through an excellent save from close range by Tom Singleton keeping the 2 goal lead.
Saunders grabbed a late consolation goal in the 88th minute through Kieron Lawley.

Final Score 1 v 2
